Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Royals men's basketball team eased to victory over the visiting Ave Maria Gyrenes, but it did not come from a big game by
Warren Hall. In fact, Hall left the game in the first half with only 10 minutes of play and did not return the rest of the game. Hall had to leave the court entirely but returned to the bench in the second half. The Royals got their big game from transfer
Isaac Sutton along with a host of Royals. Warner jumped out big in the first half as they shot 49% from the floor and played tough perimeter defense, holding the Gyrenes to only 22% from beyond the arc. As the halftime buzzer sounded, the Royals found themselves up 50-31 and walked into the locker room confident with their 19 point lead. The Gyrenes would need a big second half to come back on the #6 team in the country. In half number two, the Royals came out hot from the field as they did not miss a lot of shots. The Royals shot a blistering 63% from the floor and 80% from the three point line. With 6:45 remainig in the game, the Royals built up their largest lead of the game of 26 points, 85-59. The Gyrenes did go on a 11-0 run at that point, but the Royals were just too much for them in the end and came away with a 98-80 Sun Conference victory.
The win brought the Royals record up to 17-2 (6-2) on the season.
Isaac Sutton led the way for Warner with 25 points while
Josh Ellis added 16,
Denzel Osson had 15, and
Nick Macon had 13 points and 8 assists.
The Royals will travel up to Lakeland to take on Southeastern University on Thursday January 19 at 7 pm for their next game.
