WINTER HAVEN, Fla.- The Warner men's and women's tennis teams opened up their season Saturday against visiting Union College. The women were unable to come away with victory as they lost 5-4 to Union, but three of Union's wins were deferred to them by Warner. In doubles,
Paula Ordonez and
Luiza Arroyo won decisively 8-2 over the Union #1 doubles team. Then the combo of
Caitlin Ryan and
Thalia Roustand won by the same 8-2 score to take 2 of the 3 doubles matches on the day. In singles play, Ryan and Arroyo were able to come away with victories as Ryan won 6-2, 7-6 and Arroyo won 6-4,6-1.
The men were able to come away with a convincing 7-2 victory over Union. In doubles,
Rafael Coutinho and
Martynas Lukosiunas would win 8-2 in the #1 spot along with
Renan Gambim and
Francisco Perafan winning 8-3 from the #3 spot to take two of the three doubles matches on the day. The Royals would then dominate in singles play with victories by Perafan, Coutinho, Lukosiunas, Gambim, and
Julian Cuartas. These wins propelled the Royals to the big 7-2 victory on their season opener.
Both teams will open up conference play at home on February 4 against Keiser University. The matches will begin at 12 pm at the Winter Haven Tennis Complex.
