Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Warner men's basketball team finished off their regular season at home Thursday night against the Thomas Nighthawks. The Nighthawks and #5 ranked Royals played one of the most exciting games of the season. The first half was very telling of what was to come in the game as it was very closely played. Thomas would build an early six point lead to see it disappear only two minutes later. Thomas would go on another run to take a seven point lead at the 9:36 mark. The Royals then would chip away at the Nighthawk lead and find themselves with a 5 point lead with 2:32 remaining. Thomas would come back and with a pair of lead changes late, the Nighthawks would take a 40-39 lead into halftime. The second half would see Thomas holding a lead for the majority of the half as they built up leads as high as seven points. Twice the Royals tied the game in the second half, but the Nighthawks were able to maintain their lead. With 2:47 left in the game and the Royals down seven, Warner began a 9-2 run that tied the game at 74 and sent both teams into overtime. Overtime went back and forth as neither team wavered. Thomas would hit a shot in the final seconds to send the game into a second overtime. Thomas would score first and jump out on top early. However, the Royals played some tough defense and went on a 14-1 run. Thomas would add a very late three pointer, but the Royals would dominate the second overtime to come away with a 96-88 win. The Royals finish the regular season ranked #5 in the country and with a 24-4 (12-4) record. Warner was led in the game by
Warren Hall with 42 points,
Josh Ellis with 16 points,
Nick Macon with 13 points, and
Adam Giger with 10 points. The Royals finished second in the conference in the regular season so they receive a first round bye in the conference tournament. The Royals will now await their opponent for the conference final four.
