Box Score 2 PLANT CITY, Fla.- The Royals softball team opened their season Friday night in Plant City. The first game of the evening, the Royals took on Middle Georgia State Knights. The Royals did not waste any time getting the offense going as they scored two runs in the first inning on a
Jessica Adams single to right that scored
Tori Johnson after an error, then on a
Sara Bruno sac fly that plated Adams. The second batter of the second inning for the Royals was
Paige Davis who hit the Royals first homerun of the season. Later in the inning, Warner would score runs on a RBI single from
Caylin Delones and a sac fly by
Tori Johnson. With the Royals already up 5-0, Warner would tack on one more run in the third on a
Brittany Winget RBI single that scored Bruno. The six runs was more than enough offense for starting pitcher,
Chelsie Valentine, as she pitched a complete game shutout, only giving up three hits and striking out eleven. 7 of the 9 batters in the Royals lineup had hits in the game that was led by
Paige Davis who went 2-3 with a homerun.
The nightcap put the Warner Royals up against Indiana Tech. The Royals trailed for the first time of the season as Indiana Tech put up three runs in the first. That lead was short lived because the Royals would score seven runs in the second. Chantal Crocket got things going for the Royals as she tripled then scored on an error. The Royals would push two more runs across before the big blow of the inning came from a grand slam off the bat of
Sara Bruno to put the Royals up 7-3. Indiana Tech would get a run in the third, but the Royals would get three hits and three more runs in the bottom half to go up 10-4. Indiana Tech would not go away as they would push across three runs in the fourth to make the score 10-7. However, the Royals offense had not had enough and would explode for four runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth that was capped by a
Tori Johnson three run homerun for a 17-7 mercy rul win.
Brooke Farrer got the win, going 5 innings and striking out 8.
Tori Johnson finished the game 3-3 with four RBI's and a homerun while Chantal Crocket was 2-2 with 4 runs scored.
Warner will be back in Plant City tomorrow with games against Point University at noon and Cumberland at 2:30.
