Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Royals softball team had their home opener Saturday against the Davenport Panthers. The story of game one was pitching. Chelsie Valentine threw six shutout innings for the Royals, but the Panthers got one mistake and did not miss with a solo homerun in the seventh inning. Davenport was able to hold the Royals bats at bay as they were only able to come away with five hits on the day. Three times the Royals had a runner in scoring position, including a runner on third in the bottom of the seventh, but were not able to push a run across the plate. Warner would fall 1-0 to Davenport in game one. Valentine would finish the game with 7 innings pitched, one run allowed, ten strikeouts, and no walks. 
    There was a little more offense in game two for both sides, but the Royals would come up just short losing 3-2 to Davenport. Warner would get two run in the bottom of the first inning as Caylin Delones would lead off the game with a homerun. Chantal Crockett would then double and score on a Jessica Adams single. Unfortunately for the Royals, that was all the offense for the day. Davenport would tie the game in the fourth then take the lead in the fifth. The Panthers would hold off the Royals in the sixth as they got a runner into scoring position to come away with a 3-2 win. Delones led the Royals going 2-3 with a homerun in the game. 
    Warner will be back on the field Saturday March 4 in a double header against Calumet College beginning at 11 am.
