Box Score 2 LAKELAND, Fla.- The Royals traveled back to Southeastern on Saturday, just a day after no-hitting them, to complete the three game series with a double header. In game one,
Chelsie Valentine got the start on the mound again and did not disappoint once again. She did not throw another no-hitter, but did throw a complete game and got the win on the mound. Valentine would finish with 7 innings pitched, allowing 6 hits, and striking out 8. Southeastern would score their lone run in the bottom of the first inning to go up 1-0 early. Then in the fifth inning the Royals would strike offensively.
Ashton Sparkman would reach base on an error then
Torey Scott would triple to right center to score Sparkman and tie the game at one. The Royals did not waste any time taking the lead, as the next batter, Cailyn Delones, would reach ona fielders choice that scored Scott from third. The Royals would take a 2-1 lead out of the top of the fifth, and that was all Valentine needed to finish off the Fire and complete the victory.
In the final game of the series, the Royals were now eyeing a sweep of the Fire. The Fire would once again score a single run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. The Royals would tie the game at one in the top of the fourth on a
Megan Hammett double that scored
Sara Bruno. Then in the top of the fifth, the Royals would open up a lead on the Fire.
Caylin Delones opened the scoring for the Royals with a steal of home.
Jessica Adams would then hit a sacrifice fly that scored
Chantal Crockett. After a
Sara Bruno single,
Paige Davis would double deep to left field that would score Bruno and give the Royals a 4-1 lead. The Fire would come back in the bottom of the fifth with three runs of their own to tie the game back up at four.
Chelsie Valentine would come in to pitch once again, and the Fire would finally get the best of her with a single run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead, headed to the seventh and final inning. The Royals got a walk from
Jessica Adams to lead-off the inning and would sacrifice her to second. With two outs,
Tori Johnson would single to center, but Adams attempt to tie the game was cut off as she was thrown out at home by the Fire. The Royals would fall 5-4 in the final game of the series, but not before winning two out of three over the Fire.
