Box Score 2 LAKE WALES, Fla.- The Royals softball team was home against Calumet College on Saturday for a double header. Calumet got on the board first in game one with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to build a 3-0 lead. The Royals, however, would come right back in the bottom of the fifth with three runs of their own. Warner got RBI singles from
Ashton Sparkman and
Chantal Crockett plus a run on a fielders choice by
Torey Scott that tied the game 3-3. Calumet got a run in the seventh and the Royals had a baserunner in the bottom of the seventh, but was unable to plate her to fall 4-3 to Calumet in game one.
In game two, the Royals bats came alive and they got an outstanding pitching performance from
Brooke Farrer to win 9-0 in five innings. The Royals scored on doubles by
Jessica Adams and Tori Johnson plus got two more runs on an error to go up 4-0 in the first inning. The Royals would add two more runs in the third with one coming off an error and another on an
Ashton Sparkman sac fly. The Royals then got three more runs on one big swing by
Sara Bruno in the fourth when she connected for a three run homerun. With the Royals up 9-0, they shut down Calumet in the top of the fifth to come away with a mercy rule victory.
The Royals will be back on the field Tuesday March 7 as they will take on West Virgina Tech in a double header beginning at 1 pm at Daly Field.
