LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Warner Royals (23-15, TSC 5-9) took on the visiting Webber International Warriors (21-16, TSC 6-8). The 3 game series started out with a split between both squads. Webber took game 1, 11-1 in an 8 inning run rule. Warner fought in a heroic 8
th inning to take game 2, 8-4.
GAME 1 WU 1, WIU 11
The Royals dropped game 1 in large part to the Warrior long ball.
Junior Fermin struck first for the Royals on a sacrifice ground out scoring
Rio Russell. That would be the only offense for the Royals for the duration of the game. The Royals finished out with 1 run off 7 hits. The Warriors found the long ball with Begg who homered twice including a grand slam in the 3
rd. Rivera added a solo shot later on in the 7
th inning. The Royals would drop game 1, 11-1.
GAME 2 WU 8, WIU 4
The Warriors leaped out in front in the top of the 2
nd with 1 run. The Royals answered in the bottom of the 3
rd with a
Cole Parks fielder's choice that scored
Kevin Troncoso. The Warriors added two more runs taking a 3-1 lead over the Royals. Warner fired up in the 8
th inning.
Junior Fermin singled into right field and scored
Cole Parks.
Jesse Haney shot a double all the way to the left field fence that scored
Rio Russell.
Cal Sanelli doubled up the doubles and hit a towering ball off the wall in left center that was just a few feet shy of a homer, his double scored Fermin and Haney.
Rafael Astacio stepped in for a pinch hit chance and smacked another double for the Royals, this time off the right field fence that scored
Derek Deler and
Cal Sanelli. The Royals 8
th inning barrage finished off with Troncoso scoring on a wild pitch to give the Royals an 8-3 lead. The Warriors added another homerun to their total on the day with a Kaminsky solo shot in the top of the 9
th. The Royals held out to win 8-4.
Jaryd Clary got the start on the mound in game 2, he threw 5 inning surrendering 4 hits, 3 runs and 4 walks.
Tyler Perkins threw 2 innings of no hit ball in relief.
Ronnie Filipkowski pitched the top of the 8
th and sniped his 3
rd win of the year throwing a no hit outing setting down the Warriors 1-2-3.
Anthony Torres closed out the game throwing the top of the 9
th giving up 1 hit, 1 run and striking out 1.
The Royals finish out their series with the Warriors tomorrow, Saturday March 31
st at 12:00 P.M.
