LAKE WALES, Fla. – Warner Royals picked up their 12
th win of the season against Missouri Valley College 12-6, then fell to Aquinas College 4-1.
GAME 1
The Royals struck first during the 2
nd inning when
Jesse Alker walked.
Jesse Haney came up and was hit by the pitch. He took first and Alker moved to second. It wasn't until
Tad Stockowski singled to right field that Alker scored and Haney moved to third. The short stop made an error on a hit from
Zach Balogh who was safe at first. The error allowed Haney to score and Stockowski to move to second, making the score 2-0.
Anthony Martinez reached on an error by the second basemen, allowing the runners to advance to second and third.
Cole Parks hit a sac fly to left field scoring Stockowski. The inning ended with the score 3-0. In the bottom of the 3
rd,
Junior Fermin started the inning off with a walk. During Alker's at bat, Fermin stole second. Alker hit a line out to short stop. Fermin stole third during Haney's at bat. Haney was able to ground out to the second baseman to allow Fermin to score with the inning ended 4-0. The Royals added their last run in during the bottom of the 6
th. Haney got the inning started with a double to left center. Stockowski singled to left field allowing Haney to score from second. The Royals finished the game with the score 5-0.
Taylor Briggs was credited with the win; he pitched 4 innings. He only allowed 3 hits, 3 balls, and 4 strike outs. Ronnie Filipkoski picks up his first save of the year shutting down the Vikings with bases loaded in the 6
th then holding them scoreless in the 7
th.
GAME 2
Aquinas College struck first with a run in the top of the 4
th, and they added another in the top of the 5
th. The Royals added their only run of the game in the bottom of the 5
th.
Jesse Haney reached on an error at third base, and advanced to second on the throw.
Kevin Troncoso singled to the right side allowing Haney to move to third.
Mick Tinny singled on the right side as well scoring Troncoso. This would be the only run the Royals would tack on for the game. Aquinas college added 2 more during the game ending the game 4-1.
Trace Porter pitched the first 5 innings, where he allowed 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and 5 strike outs.
Willie Coca pitched 1 inning where he allowed 2 hits, 2 runs, and 1 walk.
