MIAMI, Fla. -- The Lady Royals (28-9, TSC 11-3) controlled the St. Thomas Bobcats as
Sylvia Welsh threw a 3-hitter, followed up by
Jordan Lewis throwing a 1-hitter. The ladies played under the lights during their late games and came out with the sweep.
GAME 1 WU 6, STU 0
Warner got their first run in the top of the 1st.
Sara Bruno reached on an error by the Bobcat's second baseman.
Avery Cotterill came up and blasted a shot for a triple that allowed S. Bruno to score. In the top of the 3rd,
Kasey Heslin singled to third base.
Cortney Bunker reached on a single to short stop, moving Heslin to second. S. Bruno put up a single to center that allowed Heslin to score and Bunker to move to third and herself to advance to second on the throw. Cotterill singled to third during her at bat. It allowed Bunker to score and S. Bruno to move to third.
Brittany Winget singled during her at bat allowing S. Bruno to score. The inning ended with the score at 4-0. In the top of the 5th, Winget doubled to left field.
Madison Taylor singled to right and it allowed Winget to score, making the score go up to 5-0. The last run came in the top of the 7th. Cotterill took a walk to put a runner on the the Lady Royals. Winget reached first by an error on the short stop and Cotterill advanced to second. Taylor doubled to left field scoring Cotterill and advancing Winget to third. The game ended with a score of 6-0.
Sylvia Welsh picked up another win for her 16
th of the year. She pitched another complete 7 innings game as she allowed only 3 hits, 1 walk and dishing out 6 strike outs.
GAME 2 WU 2, STU 0
The first run for the Lady Royals did not come until the top of the 3rd.
Sara Bruno blasted a home run over left center putting on their first run. In the top of the 4th came their last run.
Madison Taylor singled to short stop to start the hitting.
Megan Hammett singled to the short stop and advanced Taylor to second.
Kayla Bruno reached on an error by the short stop, and it allowed Hammett to advance to second and Taylor to third.
Kasey Heslin reached on a fielder's choice, with Taylor being thrown out at home moving Hammett to third and K. Bruno to second.
Cortney Bunker singled to left field scoring Hammett, advancing the runners. The Lady Royals would not add any more runs during the game. It ended with a score of 2-0.
The real story of the night was
Jordan Lewis. The freshman threw a complete 7 inning and allowed only 1 hit, while walking, and striking out 5.
