BRUNSWICK, Ga. – No. 20 Warner University softball (31-12 TSC 14-6) fends off the Mariners of Coastal Georgia (19-23 TSC 6-14) on the road with 1-0 (9 inning) and 5-3 victories.
GAME 1 - WU 1, CCG 0 (9 Innings)
Sylvia Welsh (16-3) did what
Sylvia Welsh's do best and held the Mariners to 2 hits in the extra inning thriller. She threw 99 pitches in the outing walking only two and striking out two earning her 16
th win of the season. The lone run for the Royals and the eventual game winner came off the bat of
Chantal Crockett. The game went into extra innings putting the placed runner in effect,
Kasey Heslin started out on second base.
Cortney Bunker placed down a bunt to advance Heslin to third base.
Avery Cotterill reached first via a bunt base hit.
Chantal Crockett stepped in and singled to left field scoring Heslin.
GAME 2 – WU 5, CCG 3
Brooke Olinger (3-2) picked up her 3
rd win of the year tossing 4 innings in relief only surrendering 1 hit, 2 walks and striking out 2. It Was
Jordan Lewis that got the start in the circle throwing 3 innings only giving up 2 hits, 3 runs, walking 2 and striking out 5. The unfortunate 3 runs came off of a 3 run homerun in the bottom of the third inning off the bat of Wells. It was Coastal that struck first off the homerun giving them the 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. The Royals roared back in the top of the 4
th with a
Sara Bruno single for an RBI, a
Brittany Winget sacrifice fly for an RBI and a
Kayla Bruno single for an RBI. It was tied up 3-3 until the top of the 7
th inning when
Chantal Crockett touched off her 1
st homerun of the season with
Kasey Heslin on base that gave the Royals the eventual 5-3 win.
