Women’s Soccer Drops To Skyhawks Despite Strong Offensive Outpour

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Lady Royals lost another heartbreaker tonight 2-1 to the Point University Skyhawks; however the team looked much more confident and in rhythm on offense. Both offenses were on full attack mode, with each team posting 8 shots on goal. Key defensive wins were the focal point of this game as both sides duked it out throughout the match

In the first half Warner jumped out to a 1-0 lead because a goal from sophomore mid-fielder Naisha Alicea, her first goal of the year, off an assist from sophomore defender Brooke Bloomel. Freshman defender Emma Marshal lead the way on defense for the Lady Royals throughout the half as she seemed to be apart off almost every turnover caused by the team and made the first half easy for senior goalie Sarah Bergkvist, who only had to defend one shot on goal.

The Skyhawks came out attacking in the second half and tied the game up 1-1 off a rebound goal from Vanessa Lara. Goalie Sarah Bergkvist did her best to keep the Skyhawks offense from getting into the back of the net as she blocked 5 of 7 shots on goal in the second half, but in the end the Skyhawks were able to sneak 2 goals by her and took a 2-1 lead in the 58th minute. The Royals offense did not let up and continued to spray shots at the net in the second half, racking up a total of 23 shots, 8 on goal, for the game; after the game head coach Payton Chitwood said, "he liked the pace play by the girls tonight and the offense attacks they were producing."

The offense came out in full force tonight for the Royals and despite the loss the team can build off this game as they turn around to play Middle Georgia State University this Saturday August 25 at 1030 a.m. in Lake Wales, Fla, at Royals Field.
