Lady Royals Walk Off On Sand Sharks In Thrilling OT Victory!

LAKE WALES, Fla – Tonight the Lady Royals hosted the University of South Carolina Beaufort Sand Sharks and thanks to a golden goal by Samanntha Warren, in the early minutes of OT, the Royals were able to come away with the victory 2-1. The Royals are now 6-2-1 on the year and are currently on a 5 game win streak.

The first half of tonight's match was a defensive battle, as there were only 7 total shots from both sides.

Lady Royals had 6 shots; while the Sand Sharks had 1 shot.

The Royals defense, led by Captain #7 Cristina Clements and Fr. #17 Emma Marshall, was able to keep the Sand Sharks from producing a strong offensive attack during the half, making life easy for goalie #1 Sarah Bergkvist.

Warner had 1 strong offensive attack in the half when #24 Brooke Blommel made a nice pass inside to #10 Samanntha Warren; Warren's shot attempt sailed just over the goal.

Neither side was able to gather any consistent offensive rhythm as the half ended in a tie 0-0.

The 2nd half started with the Sand Sharks finding the back of the net in the 47th minute to jump ahead 1-0.

The Royals were able to even things up 1-1 in the 58th minute when #10 Samanntha Warren intercepted a Sand Shark pass and slipped past the goalie to find the back of the net. This is Warren's, team leading, 7th goal of the season.

As the half continued the Royals continued to apply good pressure on offense but were not able to find the back of the net again.

The Lady Royals would end regular time with 16 total shots and 9 shots on goal.

The 2nd half would come to end with the game tied 1-1 and the game would head to overtime. Overtime is two 10 minute halves and is played in the "Golden Goal" format, which means the first team to score wins the match.

In the 1st overtime period, both sides began to show signs of fatigue as the pace of play became the most important aspect for the Royals.
