LAKE WALES - FLA. This evening the Warner University Men's Basketball Team went head to head with conference opponent, Johnson and Wales University. Despite a first half that went in favor of the Wildcats, the Royals battled back in the second half to pull out the victory: 93-86.
Offensive miscues and bobbles plagued Warner during the first half and allowed the Royals to only score 33 points during the first 20 minutes. However, a halftime break pulled Warner together as they came back with a purpose, scoring almost double the amount of points scored in the first half with 60 points.
The clear cut star of tonight's game was Khalil Ozuna, who scored his season high 39 points. With his efforts in tonight's game, Ozuna set a personal milestone of 1,500 collegiate career points. He also not only set a season high, but a career high 39 points in one game. Ozuna is now 8 points away from 1,000 as a Royal in just 53 games played.Â
The Royals compiled a percentage of 55.4% of shots from the field throughout the game, and 69.4% from behind the free throw line.Â
Throughout the game, the score was tied 5 times, and the lead flip flopped 6 times between the two teams but the Royals were able to keep their foot on the gas and extend their largest lead to 9 points to end the game.Â
With this win, Warner is now 13-6 overall, 7-1 in the conference, and remains perfect at home. Up next, The Royals will travel down to West Palm Beach to take on their next conference opponent, Keiser University on Saturday January 12th at 4:00 PM.Â
