Warner Baseball – Royals Drop Season Opener To Warriors, Astacio Finishes 3-3 At The Plate

Babson Park, Fla. – The Royals battled hard tonight against cross town rival Webber but lost to the Warriors 10-3 in 9 innings.

Jarrett Joyner started things off on the mound for the Royals in the season opener and threw a scoreless 1st inning for the team.

The Warriors jumped out to a 2 run lead in the 2nd inning and proceeded to score 3 runs in the 3rd inning and 4 runs in the 4th inning. Bringing the Warrior lead up to 9-0 by the start of the 5th inning.

The Royals brought home their 1st run of the game in the top of the 5th when Anthony Martinez drew a walk and eventually scored on an Alfred Brown ground out to shortstop.

The Royals scored 2 more runs in the top of the 8th inning, once when Rafael Astacio singled to center field to bring home Trey Matthews and once more when Alex Vazquez singled to right to bring home Astacio.

Astacio had 3 hits tonight along with a walk, reaching base safely in all 4 attempts; he got things started with a single to left field, followed that with a single to center field, then drew a walk in the top of the 6th inning and finished things off with a another single to center field and drove in an RBI, followed by a run scored in the top of 8th inning.

Warner threw 4 different pitchers at the Warriors tonight and kept them quiet at the plate after the 4th inning.

The Royals committed 6 errors tonight on defense and by doing so never gave themselves a fair chance at competing in this game. Look for the Royals to shake off the cobwebs and come out tomorrow looking like a brand new team as they take the field against the Warriors again, except this time on Royals turf.

The game is set to start at 12 Noon tomorrow, Saturday, 1/26.
