Babson Park, Fla. – The Royals battled hard tonight against cross town rival Webber but lost to the Warriors 10-3 in 9 innings.
Jarrett Joyner started things off on the mound for the Royals in the season opener and threw a scoreless 1
st inning for the team.
The Warriors jumped out to a 2 run lead in the 2
nd inning and proceeded to score 3 runs in the 3
rd inning and 4 runs in the 4
th inning. Bringing the Warrior lead up to 9-0 by the start of the 5
th inning.
The Royals brought home their 1
st run of the game in the top of the 5
th when
Anthony Martinez drew a walk and eventually scored on an
Alfred Brown ground out to shortstop.
The Royals scored 2 more runs in the top of the 8
th inning, once when
Rafael Astacio singled to center field to bring home
Trey Matthews and once more when
Alex Vazquez singled to right to bring home Astacio.
Astacio had 3 hits tonight along with a walk, reaching base safely in all 4 attempts; he got things started with a single to left field, followed that with a single to center field, then drew a walk in the top of the 6
th inning and finished things off with a another single to center field and drove in an RBI, followed by a run scored in the top of 8
th inning.
Warner threw 4 different pitchers at the Warriors tonight and kept them quiet at the plate after the 4
th inning.
The Royals committed 6 errors tonight on defense and by doing so never gave themselves a fair chance at competing in this game. Look for the Royals to shake off the cobwebs and come out tomorrow looking like a brand new team as they take the field against the Warriors again, except this time on Royals turf.
