LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Royals had only ever lost three games to the Fire when playing at home in the two school's history. Tonight, was the fourth as the Fire set the Royals ablaze 82-89.
No. 18 Warner University came into tonight's game following a tough last second thrilling loss to No. 13 Ave Maria. Heartbreak struck again as Polk County rivals Southeastern University stole the show 82-89. The Royals fall to 10-3 overall and have now posted a 2-3 record to start in The Sun Conference.
A bright spot for the Royals tonight was
Darryl Mercer. He posted a season high 22 points with 3 assists and 3 rebounds along with a steal. Mercer shot 53% from the field and made 4-4 from the charity stripe.
Maxwell Benoit was held to 13 points on the night shooting just 2-14 from the field but nailing 9-9 from the free-throw line.
Anterrius Washington stuck 12 points on the board hitting 3-4 from the field, 2-2 from beyond the arc and 4-4 from the charity stripe.
The Royals will receive about a week off before they head to Lakeland to play in the Southeastern classic facing Toccoa Falls College and the University of St. Francis (Ill.).
