WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – It took 11-innings, but a
Jan Martinez homerun and a
Alfred Brown single with bases loaded broke the 7-7 tie in the top of the 11
thinning and the Royals fended off the Seahawks holding onto a 9-7 upset over the NAIA #24 Keiser Seahawks.
The Royals have come out swinging to start the 2019 season as they average 7-runs a game and improved on that number as they took a 9-7 victory over the Seahawks on Silvester Field.
Trailing 4-5 heading into the top of the 7
th, the Royals used a 3-run inning to put themselves in the lead 7-5. Keiser added 1-run in the bottom of the 7
thto cut into the Royals lead 7-6.
The Seahawks added another run in bottom of the 9
thheroics to tie the game 7-7 and send the non-conference matchup into extra innings.
The game stayed scoreless through the 10
ththen it was the Royals that broke out in the 11
thinning.
Jan Martinez led off the inning and smacked his 1
sthomerun of the season deep to left center. With 1-out,
Alex Vazquez hit his 4
thseason double to give the Royals a runner on second.
Zachary Balogh stepped up to the plate next and was hit by a pitch to place runners on first and second.
Alfred Brown singled down the right field line scoring Martinez from second and sealing the deal offensively for the Royals.
Warner leaped out in front in the top of the 11
thinning and
Kody Smith slammed the door shut on the Seahawks setting them down 1-2-3 in the bottom.
Kody Smith earned his first decision of the season and now stands at 1-0 after throwing 2-innings and shutting down Keiser only surrendering 1-hit.
Scott Fickas continued his hot streak now hitting safely in all 10 games that he has played with 5 of those games registering multi-hit performances. Today, he went 3-6 at the plate with 2 RBI's and a run scored. Devin Kirkland also had a massive impact offensively going 3-6 at the plate with 2-runs scored and also a few big defensive plays at 3
rdbase.
The Royals improve to 8-4 on the young season and pulled of the upset win 9-7 delivering Keiser just their 3
rdloss of the season.
