#24 Warner Softball – Royals Suffer Tough Sweep Against Coastal Georgia Mariners

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Warner University Softball team suffered back to back Sun Conference losses in today's double header against the Mariners.
 
GAME 1 - WU 6, CCGA 7

The Royals erupted with 5-runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Megan Garfinkel reached on an error by the shortstop with bases loaded allowing Sara Bruno to score. Then again with bases loaded, Ashton Owen fired a triple knocking in Kayleigh Walters, Megan Garfinkel and Avery Cotterill. Just after that, Kasey Heslin singled in Owen jumping the Royals ahead 5-0.

The Mariners tied things up over the bottoms of the 3rd and 4th innings making it 5-5.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Avery Cotterill singled in Breyonna Shell breaking the tie and giving the Royals a 6-5 lead.

Coastal Georgia added a single run in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings that gave them the 7-6 upset victory over the Royals.

Ashton Owen led the Royals offensively with a 2-4 game knocking in 3 RBI's and coming around to score a run. Sylvia Welsh returned and unfortunately drew the loss spreading out 10-hits over 4.1 innings pitched and giving up 6-runs with only 1 of them earned while striking out 4.

Game 2 – WU 1, CCGA 4

Game 2 was a tough one for the Royals as the Mariners hit a grand slam in the top of the 1st inning and that was able to carry them throughout the game. The only run scored by the Royals was a SAC hit by Caitlyn Yockey that singled in Brittany Winget in the top of the 4th inning.

The Royals put up 6-hits in the second game of 6 different bats. Ashton Owen, Kasey Heslin, Brittany Winget, Avery Cotterill, Caitlyn Yockey and Kayleigh Walters all registered a hit in the game. Brittany Winget came in relief throwing 4 innings, striking out 2 and only surrendering 1-hit.
