Warner Softball – Royals Notch 24th Season Victory With Split At Bobcats, Winget Tosses Complete Game Shutout

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Royals move one win away from 25 on the season with a doubleheader spilt at St. Thomas University. 24-10 overall, 10-8 in The Sun Conference. 
 
GAME 1 – WU 3, STU 5
 
The Royals put up 7 hits and 3 runs but in the end it was not enough as they dropped the first game of the doubleheader 3-5. 
 
Trailing 0-2, Caitlyn Yockey shot a single up the middle that scored Avery Cotterill.
 
The Bobcats answered with a 3 run homerun in the bottom of the 5thinning extending their lead 1-5. 
 
Abigail Oliver stepped up to the plate and capitalized on an infield error that scored Avery Cotterill and Breyonna Shell. But the Royals hopes were slashed as they dropped game 1 3-5 to the Bobcats. 
 
GAME 2 – WU 5, STU 0
 
The Royals used 10 hits and 5 runs to chase down the Bobcats while Brittany Winget threw a 5 hit gem for a complete game shutout. 
 
Kasey Heslin used her thrifty speed to strike first for the Royals as she advanced home on a base stealing effort by Kayleigh Walters.
 
Holding a 1-0 lead until the top of the 5thinning, the Royals heated up again as Ashton Owen dropped down a sacrifice bunt that again allowed Kasey Heslin to score from 3rd. Breyonna Shell shot a deep sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Kayleigh Walters to scored from 3rdgiving the Royals a 3-0 lead.
 
In the top of the 7ththe Royals extended their lead off a Kayleigh Walters stand up triple to left center that allowed Kasey Heslin to score for a 3rdtime in the game. Breyonna Shell answered the call later in the inning when she had a productive out on the infield that scored Kayleigh Walters.
 
The Royals took the 5-0 victory over the Bobcats. Kasey Heslin was a force on the base paths going 3-4 at the plate in the leadoff spot while scoring 3 times. Kayleigh Walters hit in the number two spot going 3-4 while scoring twice and also plating an RBI and adding her first triple of the season. 
 
Brittany Winget picked up her 6thseason win shutting out the Bobcats with a 7 inning complete game. Winget held the Bobcats to just 5 hits over the 7 inning span while surrendering no walks and striking out 2.
