Easley, S.C. – The Warner University Royals are headed to the NCCAA World Series National Championship game in Back-To-Back seasons.
After 4 games of pool play the Warner Royals finished 3-1 and were given a shot at playing for the NCCAA National Championship if they could defeat the undefeated Southwestern Christian University Eagles in a semi-final game this afternoon at 5:00 PM.
Being only game away from back-to-back National Championship games the Royals were energized and ready for battle, as they took down the Eagles 9-4 behind an excellent performance from senior pitcher
Joey Theune.
The Royals are awaiting the results of Concordia vs. College Of The Ozarks to see who they will play in the National Championship tomorrow, May 25
th.
May 23rd 7:00 PM vs. Bluefield College (Va.)
The Royals defeated Bluefield 15-8 in 9 innings in their 3
rd game of pool play.
Warner tallied 11 hits in 30 at-bats as a team in the win, with 2 extra base hits, 3 sacrifice fly's, and 4 stolen bases.
Three Royals,
Xanders Vazquez,
Ronny Penalo, and
Trey Matthews, had multiple hits with Xanders and Ronny leading the team with 3 hits apiece.
May 24th 10:00 AM vs. College Of The Ozarks (MO.)
Warner battled hard for 10 innings but fell to the College Of The Ozarks 5-4 earlier this morning in their 4
th game of pool play in this year's NCCAA World Series.
The Royals were held scoreless until the 7
th inning when they erupted for 4 runs, off 4 errors by the Ozark defense.
The Ozarks bounced back and tied the game in the bottom of the 9
th and eventually won the game in the bottom of the 10
th inning off a single to left field.
There were 6 errors between both teams in this game but the Royals offense was held to only 3 hits in this contest.
May 24th 5:00 PM vs. Southwestern Christian University
Joey Theune dominated this afternoon, pitching 8 innings and striking out 9 batters in his 3
rd start of the season. With the win Theune is now 5-2 on the year and has helped his team clinch a spot in the 2019 NCCAA World Series National Championship game.
Warner had 12 hits as a team in their 9-4 win, with 3 players tallying multiple hits.
Rio Russell and
Xanders Vazquez led the team with 3 hits.
Xanders Vazquez added another homerun (3) to his season stats this afternoon, along with 3 RBI's.
The Vazquez Bash Bros. were back at it, as
Alex Vazquez also drove in 3 runs to continue to lead the Royals with now 66 RBI's on the year.
With the win the Royals are 41-22 and are 1 win away from being crowned the 2019 NCCAA National Champions.
Warner will play the winner of Concordia vs. College Of The Ozarks tomorrow to determine the National Champion.
