Warner Women’s Volleyball – Royals Split Day At Mariner Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Royals dropped their game to West Virginia Tech then turned right around and took a five-set thriller from St. Andrews. 
 
For the second time in Volleyball, Warner University and West Virginia Tech met up on the court. Back on August 23, 2014 it was the Royals that came away with a 3-0 sweep over the Golden Bears. Earlier today, the Golden Bears executed their revenge and swept the Royals evening the overall series at 1-1. 
 
Alexandra Gonzalez had another strong match and registered the Royals first double-double of their early season. She finished the three sets with 11 kills and 10 digs while added 2 serving aces. Alyssa Muench followed closely on the attacking front with 8 kills and an attacking percentage of .368. Grace Bergeron had 18 digs in the match while Bailee Mack led the way in assists with 18. 
 
Ultimately the Royals dropped the match to the Golden Bears with final scores of (25-17, 25-15, 25-23).
 
The second matchup of the day was against St. Andrews University. The Royals wrapped up the Mariner Invitational with a five set thrilling win over the Knights. 
 
Alexandra Gonzalez again dominated on the attack finishing with 18 kills and 8 digs adding another 2 serving aces. Alyssa Muench reached her season high of 13 kills and also tacked on 3 blocking assists. Sydney Ackermann put up 11 kills and Lady Gwendolyn Simpson added 10 kills with 4 digs and a serving ace. Bailee Mack reached a double-double with a season high 32 assists and 10 digs. Madison Hughes also put up a double-double with 19 assists and 14 digs. Savanah Griffin led the way in digs for the Royals as she finished with 29 and also added a serving ace. 
 
The Royals took down the Knights in a five-set match with the final scoring line of (25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-8). 
 
Warner will receive almost a full week off before they host the Royals Labor Day Invitational starting on August 30th
