Warner Women’s Volleyball – Royals Edge Gyrenes In Five-Set Thriller To Keep 15-Match Win Streak Over Ave Maria Alive

AVE MARIA, Fla. – The Royals carry a 21-1 record against Ave Maria in the all-time series. Today's win notches 15-straight against the Gyrenes and also holds the Royals at an undefeated 18-0 all-time against Ave Maria in Sun Conference play. 
 
The Royals (4-6, TSC 2-3) were trailing the Gyrenes 0-2 this afternoon before battling back and taking the 3rd, 4th and 5th sets for the 3-2 victory.
 
Alexandra Gonzalez set a season high in kills with 25 while hitting .388 in attacking percentage. She adds a double-double as she finished defensively with 13 digs. Bailee Mack tacked on a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs in the match. Madison Hughes had a match high 27 assists with 7 digs. Savanah Griffin had 22 digs overall for the Royals match leader.

2nd Set: - (WU - 26; AMU - 28)

3rd Set: (WU - 25; AMU - 19)

4th Set: (WU - 25; AMU - 23)

5th Set: (WU - 15; AMU - 12)


Warner proved tonight that they are a contending team in the Sun-Conference, after being down 2-0 and coming back to win 3-2 vs. Ave Maria who is now 5-8 and 2-4 in the TSC.
 

The 4th set was the ultimate dog fight for the Royals, they found themselves down 2-4 and won 8 straight volleys to take a 10-4 lead. The Gyrenes bounced back and made it 19-18 after winning 4 straight volleys late in the match before Warner was able to score and make it 20-18. 
 

Ave tied the match at 22 apiece but the Royals were able to separate and take a 24-22 lead and then solidify the win 25-23 to force a 5th set.
 

In the 5th set the Royals and Gyrenes were tied 7-7 and once again were tied at 10-10. With the 5th set 10-10 Warner was able to catch a swing of momentum and score 4 straight to take a 14-10 lead. Ave put a small comeback but ultimately Warner was able to win the set 15-12 and win the match 3-2.
