(RV) Warner Men’s Basketball – Wild Night In The TAC! Royals Close Out Overtime Thriller In Exciting Fashion!

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Five minutes is all the Royals need sometimes to run away with a game and tonight was a perfect example. After playing 40 exciting minutes of basketball, the Royals and Mariners were tied 73-73 and headed for overtime.

The Mariners stood no chance in overtime in the TAC, getting outscored 20-5 and falling short of the Royals 93-78.

This win moves the Royals to 15-5 and 4-4 in Sun-Conference play.


Maxwell Benoit ended the night as the game's leading scorer, having a career night, scoring 32 points on 12 total shots (10-12), going 5-6 from the 3-point line and 7-8 from the free throw line.

The first half was a back and forth battle that ended with the score at 33-28 in favor of the Royals.

Jaquez Dickerson was a big part of the Royals success in the first half, he created problems for the Mariners of Coastal Georgia the entire half and finished with 4 points and 5 rebounds.

Maxwell Benoit and Darryl Mercer Jr. were the main sources of scoring for the Royals in the first half, Benoit ended with 12 points on 6 shots while Mercer ended the half with 10 points on 9 shots.

Both teams' benches contributed excellently in the first half as each team had 11 points off the bench.

The Mariners came out on a mission in the second and erased the 5-point deficit from halftime quickly and would not let up the rest of the 2nd half, outscoring the Royals 45-40 in the half and forcing overtime.

In overtime the Royals decided to show up and show out in full effect, grabbing a quick 13-point lead with more than 2 minutes left in the game, after forcing several steals, making some fantastic defensive stops and seemingly not missing on the offensive side of the ball in the extra period!
