LAKE WALES, Fla. – Sophomore
Luke Myers racked up a career high in strikeouts this afternoon, finishing his stellar performance in game two of today's double header with 11 strikeouts vs. a highly competitive offense, the Montreat College Cavaliers.
Despite falling in game 1 to the Cavaliers 3-2, Warner was able to rally back and score 9 runs in the 2
nd game of today's double header and win 9-4. Both games this afternoon were scheduled for 7 innings.
Luby Fields made his 2
nd career start for the Royals in game 1 of the DH this afternoon, pitching 4 innings and striking out 3 batters before being relieved by
John Bean.
The Royals trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the 3
rd inning but were able to tie the game up 2-2 after
Erich Jaquez smacked a double to left center that scored
Zachary Balogh and
Scott Fickas.
John Bean pitched 3 innings, striking out 2 batters but unfortunately received the loss in game 1 after giving a single to center field in the top of the 6
th that allowed, ultimately, the game winning run to score.
Jarrett Joyner took the mound to start game 2 but left the game early and was relieved by
Ryan Klingler in only the 2
nd inning. Klingler was later relieved in the inning by
Luke Myers who took the helm and cruised through 5.1 innings on his way to his 1
st career win, striking out 11 Cavaliers in the process.
Scott Fickas and
Josh Strickland tallied multiple hits in the game 2 victory; (Fickas 2-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Strickland 2-3, 1 run, 2 RBI) with
David Torres smashing a 3 run HR to left center to cap off the 9-4 win in game 2.
The Royals will face off against the Cavaliers tomorrow in another double header that is set to start at 12 Noon.
