LAKE WALES, Fla. – Warner faced off against the College of Coastal Georgia earlier today in The Sun Conference Tournament opening round. With the 3-1 victory, they move on to the Semifinal matchup.
The Royals qualified for The Sun Conference Tournament as the No. 6 seed. They paired off against the No. 3 College of Coastal Georgia Mariners. The Royals fell in both of their regular season matchups against the Mariners. The first game the Royals lost at home in a five-set thriller, then traveled to Coastal Georgia where the Mariners pulled off a clean sweep.
The Royals took command today and a few added season best numbers. The first set was a tight win by two finish with the Royals overcoming the Mariners 28-26. A slight stumble led to the Mariners taking the second set 25-20. The Royals trounced the Mariners in the third set 25-16 then moved on to take the fourth set 25-23 for the 3-1 victory.
Alexandra Gonzalez registered a double-double racking up 15 kills with 17 digs.
Sydney Ackermann also tallied double digit kills with 10.
Madison Hughes led the way with a double-double setting up Royals attackers with 21 assists and recording a career high 18 digs. The Royals had a very good night defensively,
Aurora Alderman topped her career best with 28 digs in the match.
As a team, the Royals put together an impressive 18 total blocks.
Ember Oglesby led the way with 1 solo block and 6 block assists (BA). TerriAnne Henry added 4(BA),
Sydney Ackermann finished with 3(BA),
Kennedy Lane and
Hannah Bell both tallied 2(BA).
The Royals grabbed the opening round win and will advance to the semifinal matchup against the No. 2 Ave Maria Gyrenes. The semifinal game will be played at Ave Maria on Monday November 16
th at 7:00 p.m.
