LAKE WALES, Fla. – The No. 6 seeded Royals traveled to the No. 3 seeded Ave Maria last night and fell 1-3.
It was the Royals that struck first blood in the opening 15 minutes when
Kirstin Campbell smacked the back of the net with her first goal of the season. The assist was credited to
Maddie Manzke for her third of the season. The Gyrenes even the slate at 1-1 in the 33
rd minute. The game remained tied until the 73
rd minute. A crucial foul called inside of the goalie box against the Royals gave way to an Ave Maria penalty kick that proved good and gave Ave a late lead. The Gyrenes found the net again 10 minutes later extending the lead to the eventual 1-3 victory over the Royals.
Last week the Royals were named a top contender in the NCCAA ranking at No. 6 overall. The No. 6 NCCAA power ranking carries through and awarded the Royals an At- Large selection into the NCCAA National Championship field.
