LAKE WALES, Fla. – Warner fell in the first game today to tough Reinhardt pitching. In the second game, they battled the Tigers into extra innings and dropped a heartbreaker.
The Royals fell in game 1 to the (RV) Eagles of Reinhardt University 0-11. In the bottom of the 5
th inning,
David Torres drew a walk that ruined Jordan Hampton's perfect game bid. In the bottom of the 6
th inning,
Rio Russell fired a ball to right field that spoiled the no hit bid for Hampton. The Eagles replaced Hampton in the bottom of the 7
th inning and
Deven Kirkland also doubled for the Royals but they were unable to put any runs on the board. A stellar pitching effort by Jordan Hampton of the Eagles who had a final line of 6 innings pitched, 1 hit and 4 k's earning his first win of the season.
The second game of the afternoon for the Royals turned into an extra innings thriller. Edward Waters drew first blood in the top of the 3
rd taking the 1-0 lead over the Royals. Warner answered with a
Daniel Coca single to left field in the bottom of the 4
th that scored
Trey Matthews and tied the game at 1-1.
David Torres reached on an error in the bottom of the 5
th and the play scored
Josh Strickland giving the Royals a 2-1 lead. A solo homerun for the Tigers tied things back up in the top of the 6
th. With the game scheduled for 7 innings, it went into extras and it was the Tigers that plated 2 runs in the top of the 9
th inning then rendered the Royals a scoreless bottom of the 9
th. The Royals fell 2-4 to the Tigers splitting the weekend series with them 1-1.
The Royals move into Sun Conference play as they open their TSC schedule with NAIA No. 4 Southeastern on Wednesday Feb 19
th at 6:30 p.m.
