WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Warner pulled off a big time upset in extra innings off the bat of
Breyonna Shell. Then went on to defeat Roosevelt in a doubleheader by a combined score of 13-0.
Game 1 – WU 7, No. 15 ONU 4
The first game of the day was a repeat matchup from last night between the Royals and the Tigers. Last night it was the Tigers that pulled off a 3-6 victory over the Royals. This morning, the two went into extra innings tied 4-4. In the top of the 8
th inning,
Breyonna Shell stepped in with
Ashton Owen and
Andrea Rebello on the base paths and smacked a towering homerun to centerfield that delivered the eventual 7-4 win.
Sara Bruno hit her second homerun of the season in her 3-4 effort at the plate with 1 double and 3 RBI's.
Breyonna Shell was 2-4 at the plate with 3 RBI's, 1 homerun and a double.
Sylvia Welsh picked up her first win of the season throwing 8 innings, giving up 4 runs and striking out 2.
Game 2 – WU 8, RU 0
The Royals offense heated up as they took down the Lakers 8-0 in a 6 inning run rule. Warner put up 12 hits including a
Sara Bruno homerun for her third of the season.
Kaitlyn Ridolph smacked her first homerun of the season as she finished the game 1-3 at the plate with 1 homerun, 2 RBI's and 1 run scored.
Breyonna Shell added another double to her name going 1-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and an RBI.
Melanie Rogers earned the first win of her career moving to 1-0 on the season throwing 6 innings, 4 hits, and striking out 3.
Game 3 – WU 5, RU 0
Tiffany Dodson shined again inside of the circle holding the Lakers to just 1 hit. Dodson threw the first 5 innings only giving up 1 hit and striking out 5. Dodson earned her second win of the season now standing at 2-0.
Alison Yawn came in and pitched the last two innings for the Royals preserving the 1 hitter as she threw 2 innings and struck out 1.
The Royals plated two runs in the bottom of the 1
st inning on a costly throwing error by the Lakers that gave Warner a 2-0 lead.
Kaitlyn Ridolph punched a single up the middle in the bottom of the 4
th inning that scored
Breyonna Shell. Later,
Caitlyn Yockey fired a single up the middle that brought
Amanda Beinborn and
Kaitlyn Ridolph to score.
Warner improves to 4-1 on the season and will be riding a three game winning streak into Thursdays matchup and the Royals home opener against The University of Western Ontario.
