COLUMBUS, Ga. – Warner Royals softball were one of 17 teams in the NFCA Classic this weekend and made a massive dent going 3-2 with wins over #5 Georgia Gwinnett, #13 Campbellsville and (RV) Brenau College.
Warner 4, #13 Campbellsville 3
The Royals kicked off their triple header on the day with a morning matchup against #13 Campbellsville. The Tigers plated 2 runs in the top of the 1st and then added another in the top of the 3rd to take a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 3rd the Royals offense fired up and
Avery Cotterill smacked a double deep to right center field with bases loaded that cleared the bases and tied the game at 3-3. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the 7
th when
Sara Bruno hit a double and
Ashton Owen followed up with a single to walk off against the #13 Tigers.
Alison Yawn started in the circle for the Royals and threw 3 innings surrendering 4 hits and 3 runs.
Tiffany Dodson came into the game in relief and threw 4 innings giving up just 3 hits and striking out 9. Dodson improved to 4-1 on the season.
Warner 3, #7 Mobile 7
The Royals unfortunately dropped to the #7 Rams by a final score of 3-7. The Rams used two doubles and two homeruns to earn the 7 runs.
Sara Bruno hit her 5
th homerun of the season with
Kayleigh Walters on the base paths for a 2 run shot.
Kayleigh Walters and
Ashton Owen both blasted triples in the contest.
Sylvia Welsh started in the circle and fell to 3-2 on the season. Welsh threw 4.1 innings with 6 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 6.
Tiffany Dodson threw in relief for 1.2 innings and only surrendered 2 hits and struck out 1.
Warner 6, (RV) Brenau 4
The Royals offense again lit up the field putting 11 hits on the board.

Kasey Heslin remains perfect swiping her 9
th bag of the season and is 9-9. Melonie Rogers improved to 2-0 on the season after throwing 3.1 innings and striking out two.
Sylvia Welsh earned her first save of the season throwing 3.2 innings in relief only surrendering 1 hit and striking out 4.
Overall the Royals finished the weekend 3-2 facing some of the nation's best talent in the game. They improve to 9-3 overall and claim wins now over #5 Georgia Gwinett, #13 Campbellsville, #15 Olivet Nazarene and (RV) Brenau.
