Warner Baseball - Royals Split Season Opening Doubleheader With Gyrenes

AVE MARIA, Fla. - The Royals offense rolled the Gyrenes with 23 runs in the first game. A flip that saw Ave fire up the offense saw the Royals drop the second game 3-9.

Warner has taken five of the last seven matchups from the Gyrenes. The all-time series between the two now stands in favor of the Royals 17-14 overall since 2010.

John Bean took the win off the hill for the Royals moving to 1-0 on the season. Bean spread out six hits and five runs over three innings while striking out three. Ryan Wimbush and Cameron Cooper combined for the other four innings throwing two each. Wimbush and Cooper did not surrender an earned run and struck out eight hitters (Wimbush 6, Cooper 2).

The Warner offense amassed 22 hits in the game. Logan Flood and Brian Spradlin tore the cover off of the ball each going 5-6 at the plate. Spradlin knocked across an abusive 9 RBI's in the game. The Royals strung together six extra base hits, 2B (Jan Martinez (1), Brian Spradlin (2)). Taylor Briggs, Brian Spradlin and Logan Flood all claimed homerun blasts to open the season.

The Royals improved to 1-0 following the first game win.

GAME TWO

In a change of events it was the Gyrenes that captured game two of the doubleheader 9-3.

The Royals managed to push across a run in the first inning with a walk and later on a fielder's choice. Ave kept Royals hitters at bay until the fifth inning when Alexander Ramos broke up the no hit bid by Gyrene pitcher, Brandon Diaz.

Warner's pitching struggled as the only upside was Luke Myers who threw 2 innings striking out 4.

With the game two loss, Warner opened their season with a 1-1 split against Ave Maria.
