Warner Football - Royals Fall to Bobcats in First Conference Game

LAKELAND, Fla. – Royals lose first conference game of the year to St. Thomas University. 

The Royals faced off against the Bobcats Saturday afternoon for the fourth time in school history. Last year the Royals played the Bobcats in Miami Gardens, Fla., and lost in overtime 27-20. 

Michael Young had a fantastic day for the Royals. He had 287 total yards with one touchdown and completing 22 passes with 40 attempts. Clyde Holland III had 127 total rushing yards for the Royals with a 78-yard rushing touchdown to keep the game close between Warner and St. Thomas. Kevin Davis led the Royals with 93 total receiving yards with a 68-yard reception that would end up as a touchdown. Jonathan Jones and Xavier Johnson II had 6 solo tackles for Warner University. Jonathan Jones led the Royals with a total of 11 tackles for the game. 

The Royals went into halftime with a 13-10 lead over the Bobcats. Entering the fourth quarter Warner University had a 20-17 lead. It was not until the fourth quarter when the Royals lost control of the game. St. Thomas University scored a total of 29 points in the fourth quarter alone. Tyler Thomas the quarterback for the Bobcats had 6 passing touchdowns on the day. 

Nonetheless, the Royals are showing a lot of life for the remainder of this season. Warner had 174 rushing yards compared to one of the top teams in the conference the Bobcats who only had 83. Besides the fourth quarter, the Royals defense was on fire. 

The Royals next matchup will be against Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, Fla. at 1:30 PM on October 9th
