(RV) Warner Men’s Basketball – Royals Take A Trip to the Virgin Islands

ST.THOMAS, UVI. – Royals take a trip to the Virgin Islands to play in the HBCU Classic hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands. Warner returns back to the island again for the first time after 2019. 
 
For the first game, the Royals faced the Rams for the first time in program history and won 74-51. Blaize Darling Jr. was the leading scorer for the Royals, Darling Jr. scored 14 points and recorded 8 rebounds. Logan West notched 13 points, 1 steal, and 8 rebounds. The Royals scored a total of 46 points in the paint. 
 
The next day Warner faced the native of the Virgin Islands. After this contest, the Royals improved their record in the tournament to 2-0. Junior, Darryl Mercer led the Royals with 24 points. Mercer also recorded 3 steals, 2 assists, and 5 rebounds. Joseph Martz scored 13 points and led in steals with 6 steals in total. As a team, the Royals recorded 20 steals. Martz also led in assists with 4 in the night. Along with Martz was Johnathan Joseph who notched 4 assists as well. Jeremiah Saunders was one of the leading rebounders, along with Darling Jr. who each registered 7. Saunders also went 2-2 from the line and recorded 11 points. 
 
The last game of the classic was against the Bulldogs. Mercer recorded his season-high of 35 points today. Mercer not only recorded a new season-high but was also the leading scorer for the Royals. Josh Glesil registered 9 points and collected 9 rebounds. Glesil went 4-5 from the field goal. Warner scored a total of 85 points and the Buccaneers scored 93. 
 
The Royals are now 3-1 in the season, next up Warner will face the Owls of Florida Atlantic University in an Exhibition.
