LAKE WALES, Fla, - Warner had a 12-game winning streak at home snapped by the Gyrenes last night with the games final score of 98-93 in overtime.
After contending for 40 minutes the Royals and the Gyrenes were tied 84-84. The history between Warner and Ave Maria dates back to November 22, 2008. The Royals lead the overall series against the Gyrenes 17-8.
Following the first half, the score was 48-41 in favor of Ave Maria.
Darryl Mercer and
Rod Boggan were tied at 10 points each as the leading scorers. The Royals came out in the second half with intensity and scored 43 points leaving the Gyrenes trailing with just 36 points.
Logan West led the half with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal, and 1 assist. At the end of regulation, it was tied at 84-84 a piece.
In overtime, the Gyrenes offense hit 100% from the free-throw line and three-point range. Ave Maria went on a 14-9 streak in overtime and came away with the 98-93 victory.
Warner sits 15-4 overall and 13-4 in TSC play. The Royals will travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face the Seahawks for the second time this season Saturday, February 13.
