LAKE WALES, Fla. - No. 19 Royals lengthened their win streak to 13 straight games with the season opening double header sweep over the Rams of Columbia International.
Game 1 - WU 11, CIU 4
The Royals cruised to a 11-4 victory in game one with a couple of big homeruns off the bats of Kelly Dwyer and Jennifer Bryant. The pair of juniors got the scoring started for the Royals in what ended up being a 7 run difference.
The Royals offense used 13 hits and 11 runs to earn the win. Jennifer Bryant stole the show with a homerun and a double in the game finishing 2-4 with 3 RBI's. Sara Bruno hit 3-4 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. From the leadoff spot, Alison Yawn went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and a walk.
Tiffany Dodson picked up the win in the circle tossing 5.2 innings surrendering 6 hits, 2 earned runs and striking out 2. Kara Bradley finished off the game with 1.1 innings and no damage done.
GAME 2 - WU 17, CIU 5
The Royals offense came out determined, hanging a 10 spot in the bottom of the first over the Rams. In the bottom half of the inning, Breyonna Shell hit a double. That was followed by a triple from Ashton Owen. Sara Bruno ended the onslaught with a bases loaded clearing double to left center ringing up 3 RBI's. The Rams got Shell shocked again in the bottom of the third when Shell hit a towering 3-run shot to right field. The Royals tacked on a few more and took the 17-5 win.
Breyonna Shell made a huge impact going 2-3 with 5 RBI's, 1 homerun, 1 double, 3 runs scored and a walk. Sara Bruno dazzled with her bases loaded double that gave her a 2-4 game with 3 RBI's. The Royals used 16 hits to pick up 17 runs in game two. Of the 16 hits, just three were for extra bases.
Michaela Boelens threw a stunning first three innings holding the Rams to just two hits. The Rams heated up in the fourth inning forcing Boelens to retire after throwing 4 innings, 6 hits, 4 earned runs, and striking out 4. Kara Bradley again got the ball late and shut the door after pitching a flawless fifth inning. Michaela Boelens picked up her first win in her college career debut.
Warner will quickly shift focus into a matchup of the NAIA top 20 as they take on NAIA No. 11 Campbellsville University next Thursday.
