(18) Warner Softball – Royals Run Rule Conquistadors In Split Series Achieving 20th Win

LAKE WALES, Fla. – (18) Warner softball split the series with Florida National. Florida National had won six straight games and were 9-1 before getting run ruled by Warner in game one.

Game One – WU 15, FNU 4
 
The bat turned on for the Royals that used 16 hits and no homeruns to score 15 runs and take the 5-inning mercy rule over the Conquistadors.
 
Florida National used three Royals errors and three hits in the top of the first inning to take a 4-0 early lead.
 
In the bottom of the first inning, Warner started an offensive barrage that would see the Royals score 15 straight unanswered runs off 16 hits.
 
Alison Yawn, Kasey Heslin, and Breyonna Shell all registered a three-hit contest. Breyonna #Shellshocked the Conquistadors hanging 4 RBI's and scoring 2 runs. Katelyn Richards and Breyonna Shell both hits doubles while Alison Yawn connected with her second triple of the season and scored 4 runs.
 
Tiffany Dodson snagged the win improving to 16-5 overall. Dodson gave up three hits and four unearned runs in the top of the first then went on to spread out just four more hits over the next four innings.
 
Game Two (9 innings) – WU 6, FNU 9
 
The second game of the series was a 2-1 Florida National lead following the top of the second inning. It wasn't until the seventh inning when the Conquistadors added another insurance run extending the lead 3-1.
 
Alison Yawn laid down a bunt that scored Delaney Asbury and cut into the lead 3-2 in favor of FNU. Katelyn Richards later scored Alison Yawn by rifling a double into the left center gap with two outs on the board and it tied the game at 3-3.
 
Heading into extra innings, FNU scored two more runs in the top of the eighth keeping the pressure on the Royals and taking a 5-3 lead.
 
Warner got even off a single from Jennifer Bryant and a single from Delaney Asbury that evened things again at 5-5.
 
In the top of the ninth, FNU hit a bases clearing triple then followed it with a sacrifice fly and busted out to take a four-run lead.
 
Katelyn Richards fired another single and picked up another RBI cutting the lead to just three for FNU 9-6.
 
FNU would hold on to take the nine-inning thriller from the Royals.
 
FINAL THOUGHTS
 
-Florida National had won six straight games and were 9-1 entering the first game today. With the Royals ace in the circle, Warner made quick work of the Conquistadors snapping the six game streak.
-Warner won their 20th game of the season with the first game win.
-Florida National had swept two straight Sun Conference opponents taking the series from both Keiser and Webber International.
 
Warner will shift focus to their mid-week matchup against their rivals of Webber International at Webber next week.
