AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Royals take one from Iowa natives, improving their overall record to 14-10.
In game one the Defenders scored one run in the top of the first inning. The Royals scored by a wild pitch that brought in
Taylor Briggs to tie the game.
David Torres flied out to center field for a sacrifice fly to score
Tyler Brown to improve the score to 2-1 in favor of the Royals. In the bottom of the 2
nd, Briggs flied out to center field for a sacrifice fly to score
Daniel Coca.
Josh Strickland singled to the shortstop to score
Tad Stockowski. Brown then flied out to left field for a sacrifice fly to score
Zachary Balogh which improved the game to 5-1 Royals up.
In the bottom of the 4
th, Brown tripled to center field that scored Strickland, registered an RBI.
Zachary Arnold scored in the bottom 5
th on a passed ball that made the game 7-1 for Warner.
Freshman
Elijah Garner pitched a great 7 innings for the Royals to secure the win. He improved his overall record to 1-0.
Game two
Just like game one, the Defenders scored one run in the first inning, but that didn't stop the Royals.
John Pichman hit a moon shot out to left field to tie the game in the top of the 2
nd. In that same inning,
Jan Martinez tripled to center field and recorded an RBI scoring
Logan Flood.
Brian Spradlin then singled to the 3
rdbaseman and registered an RBI scoring Martinez which improved the game to 3-1 Royals on top.
Dordt made a comeback in the next two innings that made the score 4-3 Royals trailing. In the top of the 6
thPichman singled to right field that listed an RBI scoring Strickland to tie the game once again. The Defenders battled and walked off in the bottom of the 7
th to win the game 5-4.
Warner will play on Thursday in the Warner Invitational against Bellevue for their first appearance in the tournament.
