Warner Women's Basketball Drops An Intense Game Against Mayville State

LAKE WALES, Fla - The Royals hosted the Comets of Mayville State University in Lake Wales, Fla for a non-conference matchup.

The Royals hosted the Comets as they made the trip from North Dakota in a non-conference home game. The Royals got off to a great start as the Comets were struggling to find the bottom of the net in the first quarter, with Courtney Logan leading the way as she was able to knock down some big threes to put the Royals ahead going into the second quarter with a three point lead. Mayville State was able to find the three ball in the second quarter and step up defensively to help cut the deficit and gain a two point lead over the Royals going into the half with a score of 34-32. Logan had a great first half as she would finish with 10 points, two rebounds, and two assists to keep the Royals in striking distance. The Comets would come out firing from the field as they were able to gain a four point lead after an impressive back and forth third quarter where the Royals shot 40% from the field but it was made difficult with foul trouble for the Royals as the Comets shot 100% from the charity stripe. The fourth quarter was intense coming down to the wire with the Royals down by one point with 42 seconds left in the game, Mayville was able to hit a big three to put them up by four with the Royals calling a timeout to set the offense with 20 seconds left. A crucial turnover would be the nail in the coffin as Warner would have to foul and hope for the Comets to miss at the line. The Royals would ultimately drop the game in heartbreak fashion with the final score being 67-62, dropping the Royals record to 4-3 on the season. Logan had a breakout game as she would hit four three's and would finish with 21 points, four steals, three rebounds, and two assists. Jasmine Edwards registered another double-double, her fifth of the year, as she would total 17 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists for the Royals.
