Warner Softball Splits Doubleheader Against FNU

LAKE WALES, FL- The Royals faced off against the Conquistadors of Florida National in double-header action on a chilly Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, Warner started off sluggish as they would surrender two runs in the first inning, and an additional run in the third. The Royals would get on the board soon, however, as Tyler Mooring would draw a bases loaded walk, crediting her with an RBI. A good third inning for the Royals would blend into the fourth as they would tack on four to erase the deficit and take a one run lead. Jordan Moore and Raelyn Roland both produced RBI singles to cap off a momentum shifting fourth inning. The Conquistadors would score the game-tying run in the top of the 6th and stellar pitching from both sides would take this game into extras. Following Texas tie breaker rules, FNU opened the top of the 8th with a runner on second and would go on to drive her in, as well as, three additional runs. After a sac bunt from Autumn Calcagno, in the bottom of the eight, the Royals would cut the lead to three, thanks to a Violet Irving RBI single. After a walk, and a passed ball, Andrea Rebello  would drive in a second run by fielder's choice. Despite these late game efforts, the Royals were unable to finish the comeback, and fell to FNU 9-7.  Raelyn Roland had a great game one for the Royals, as she would finish two for three, with a couple doubles, a walk, and two RBIs.

Kicking off game two of the double-header, the Royals gave the starting pitching nod to their ace Madelyn Morton in hopes of evening the series. The home team would get off to a quick start in the first inning thanks to catcher Jordan Moore. Following a two out single from Tyler Mooring, Moore connected for a two-run homerun, her second of the year. Following their first inning breakout, the Royals got a great performance from Morton who would go on to throw five innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits. The conquistadors took a two-run lead going into the sixth before a thunderous bottom half for Warner. Mooring would get the party going with an RBI double, driving in third baseman Rebello. FNU mistakes, and smart base running from the Royals helped the Royals jump out to a 6-4 lead going into the last inning. Allie Hughes, who came in relief for Morton, forced a scoreless 7th inning… giving the Royals a series evening win. The Royals look to build off this momentum when they host New College of Florida, in double-header action, on February 19th at 4:00 PM.
