LAKE WALES, FL- The Royals faced off against Cleary University in double-header action on Monday afternoon.
In game one, the Royals sent out pitcher
Allie Hughes to extend their win streak to six. This game started off as a pitching duel as both pitchers kept the game scoreless through the first four innings. After a fifth scoreless inning for Hughes, the Royals would blow this game wide open in the bottom half of the inning. Following two straight singles to start the inning,
Tyler Mooring and
Jordan Moore would drive in the first two runs of the game with RBI singles. Later on in the inning, following a
Samantha Berube two RBI single,
Allyson Becker would come through in a big way with a two RBI triple, to bring the score to 6-0. The Royals were not done there, however, as they would tack on one more run in the inning thanks to an RBI single from
April Dominguez. Following an explosive fifth inning, the Royals would tack on one more as a result of a
Grace Derstine SAC fly.
Allie Hughes was phenomenal for the Royals, throwing a complete game shutout en route to an 8-0 Warner win. Hughes picked up her third win of the season, while only giving up two hits to the Cougars. The Royals win game one of the double-header 8-0.
Samantha Berube had a great game one for the Royals, as she would finish two for three, with a couple singles, and two RBIs.
Kicking off game two of the double-header, the Royals gave the starting pitching nod to
Madalyn Morton in hopes of extending their winning streak to seven. The Royals would get behind quickly in this one, giving up three in the opening frame. They would answer with a run of their own thanks to an RBI double from
Tyler Mooring. Mooring wasn't done there as she would kick off the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff double.
Samantha Berube wouldn't take long to bring her in as she followed with an RBI double of her own to bring the Royals within one.
Allyson Becker would keep the inning alive, as she tied the game at three with an RBI single. The Cougars bounced back in the top of the 5th, scoring three runs. Warner was shut out the rest of the game on offense and would go on to lose the game 7-3. For the Royals, this snaps their six-game winning streak at home. The Royals will look to turn things around when they host Dordt University, in double-header action, on March 6th at 4:00 PM.
