CLEARWATER, FL- The Royals looked to keep their season alive as they faced off against the Florida Memorial University Lions in a conference tournament battle.
The Royals and the Fire sent out two strong pitchers as all Conference pitcher
Madalyn Morton would be on the mound for your Royals and Sekinger for the Fire. This pitching matchup would be as advertised as both people were able to limit the runners on the basepaths. Morton would have a strong outing as she would pitch 6.2 innings, giving up 4 hits and striking out 3 batters. Sekinger would be unhittable as she would pitch a complete game no hitter while striking out 10 batters in the game. Both pitchers would be backed up by strong defense in this one. The Royals battled hard and valiantly against the Fire but the key moment in the game would come in the bottom of the seventh inning; as Brooks would send the Fire home with a win as she would double down the right field line securing the win against the Royals. It was a strong game defined by strong pitching performances from both Morton and Sekinger but the Royals would fall by a score of one to zero. The Royals look to keep their season alive tomorrow as they play their second playoff game on May 3rd.
After dropping their first game of postseason conference play, the Royals needed a win to keep their season alive as they faced off against the Florida Memorial University Lions. The Royals found themselves trailing early on in the 2nd inning as an error by Morton would give the Lions an early lead. The Royals continued to trail as in the third inning, the Lions would add three more runs and a big blow as Olivo would hit a solo home run increasing their lead. The Royals pitcher Morton would pitch 6 innings allowing five hits, walked two and struck out five of the Lion's hitters. The Royals found themselves trailing but would crack the scoreboard in the fifth inning as
Andrea Rebello singled up the middle bringing in
April Dominguez putting the Royals down by three. As time winded down and they got into the later innings, the Lions got a strong performance from Silva as she would go 7 innings,give up 1 run and struck out 3 Royals batters. The Royals fought hard throughout a tough 7 innings of play but would fall by a score of 4 to 1. Congrats to the Royals after a hard fought season as they finished with a 22-29 record and had strong standout performances on the season from the entire team; they look forward to gear up for the next 2024-2025 season.Â
