TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Warner University Royals faced a challenging opponent in the Milligan Buffs during the Florida College Labor Day Classic on August 30, 2024. Despite a strong showing, the Royals were defeated with a final score of 3-1 in favor of Milligan.
The match started off tough for Warner as they fell in the first two sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-19. However, the Royals saw a glimmer of hope in the third set where they edged out Milligan with a tight 26-24 win. Unfortunately, they couldn't carry the momentum into the fourth set, suffering a 25-17 loss which sealed their fate in the match.
Warner's performance was highlighted by
Leah Cooley who led the team with 7 kills and contributed defensively with a block.
Rylee Waldie and
Sofia Suarez also performed admirably, each scoring 6 kills and a block, while Suarez added 5 digs.
Skye McDermott had a standout defensive game with 9 digs.
In the service game, Evaisabel Davila-Morales delivered 3 critical aces, and
Leonelis Lopez-Fernandez added another 2 to the tally. The team effort was rounded out with assists from
Imar Laboy, who provided 7 setups.
Looking forward, the Women's Volleyball team at Warner will remain at the Florida College Labor Day Classic, with their next contest scheduled against the Trinity College Tigers on the same day. The Royals hope to bounce back and improve their current season record of 3-2.
