LAKE WALES, FL - On January 29, 2025, at the Turner Athletic Center, Warner University's Women's Basketball team faced a tough challenge in their SUN Conference game against the Florida Memorial Lions, ending in a 70-52 defeat.
The Royals, led by
Julia Gilbert with 13 points, fought valiantly but couldn't overcome the early lead established by the Lions. Defensive plays by
Bethany Howard, who led Warner with 5 rebounds, showcased the team's effort, even as they trailed throughout the game. Warner's
Courtney Logan and Gilbert provided crucial assists, attempting to bridge the gap, but the constant pressure from Florida Memorial, including a standout performance from Ebony Black-Smith, left the Royals trailing.
Despite moments of brilliance such as
Julia Gilbert's layup that narrowed the margin in the third quarter and
Cameron Tripp's total of 9 points and 4 rebounds, the Lions maintained control. They had established a significant 17-point lead by halftime, foreshadowing the game's outcome.
Looking ahead, the Royals, who now hold a 6-14 record, will next face Keiser University on February 5, 2025, in Lake Wales, FL.
