Royals Split Matches Against Florida Memorial and St. Thomas in SUN Conference Play

LAKELAND, Fla. – March 22, 2025 – The Warner University beach volleyball team put forth a strong performance over the weekend, dominating Florida Memorial University with a 5-0 sweep before falling in a competitive 4-1 match against St. Thomas University.

Warner opened the event with a commanding victory over Florida Memorial, securing straight-set wins across all five pairings. The Royals showcased their offensive strength and aggressive net play, limiting their opponents to single-digit scores in multiple sets. Later in the day, Warner faced a tougher challenge against St. Thomas, where they fought hard but came up short, securing just one win in the matchup.

March 22 – Warner 5, Florida Memorial 0
The Royals took full control of their opening match, making a statement with a dominant sweep.
  • Pair 1: Fassnacht / Cooley def. Medina/Carneiro (FMU) – 2-0 (21-12, 21-10)
  • Pair 2: Rodriguez / De Jesus def. Roberts/Lester (FMU)  – 2-0 (21-10, 21-8)
  • Pair 3: McDermott / Alfar def. Ortiz/Artavia (FMU)  – 2-0 (21-9, 21-6)
  • Pair 4: Jimenez / Coggins def. Clendinn/Dasdrius (FMU)  – 2-0 (21-8, 21-3)
  • Pair 5: Harsch / Abbade def. Nunez/Kallie (FMU)  – 2-0 (21-8, 21-3)

Match Recap:
Warner came out with strong energy and quickly took control of the match. Fassnacht and Cooley led the way at Pair 1, using aggressive serving and quick transitions to keep Florida Memorial off balance. Rodriguez and De Jesus dominated at Pair 2 with precise ball placement, while McDermott and Alfar continued the momentum with powerful attacks in their match. Jimenez and Coggins, along with Harsch and Abbade, overwhelmed their opponents with efficient play, completing the sweep in convincing fashion.

March 22 – St. Thomas 4, Warner 1
The Royals faced a more challenging opponent in St. Thomas, pushing three matches to decisive third sets but ultimately falling 4-1.
  • Pair 1: Fassnacht / Cooley lost to Ramos/Cruz (STU) – 1-2 (21-15, 18-21, 15-11)
  • Pair 2: McDermott / Alfar lost to Ramirez/Narisutas (STU) – 1-2 (21-15, 21-23, 15-11)
  • Pair 3: Rodriguez / De Jesus def. Coctes/Sierra (STU) – 2-0 (21-16, 21-16)
  • Pair 4: Jimenez / Coggins lost to Moore/Torres (STU) – 0-2 (21-19, 21-19)
  • Pair 5: Harsch / Abbade lost to Ramirez/Tavarez (STU) – 0-2 (21-17, 21-19)

Match Recap:
Warner started strong against St. Thomas, with Fassnacht and Cooley taking the first set in their match at Pair 1. However, St. Thomas adjusted and fought back, edging out a close three-set win. McDermott and Alfar also took an early lead at Pair 2 but fell just short in another tight three-set battle. Rodriguez and De Jesus were the bright spot for the Royals, continuing their strong chemistry to claim a straight-set win. Despite valiant efforts at Pairs 4 and 5, Warner was unable to secure another win, dropping the match 4-1.
