MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The Royals traveled south to Miami Gardens on Wednesday for a SUN Conference matchup against Florida Memorial University. The Royals and Lions battled hard, but ultimately FMU pulled away in the 2nd half to come out with the victory, 86-66.Â
Warner fought hard throughout the entire game, finding themselves only down 37-32 in a what was a defensive battle in the 1st half between the two programs. The Royals and Lions went toe-to-toe for about 30 of the 40 minutes of the game, seeing the Royals cut the FMU lead down to 1 point about half way through the 2nd half. Despite the Royals best efforts, FMU pulled away behind some strong individual shooting performances.Â
The Royals continue to see the points spread out amongst the team as 4 Royals scored double-digits on Wednesday.
Josh Irwin recorded a game high 19 points, going 8-for-15 from the field, while also securing 5 rebounds and providing 1 assist on the day.
Seth Childers had a strong all-around performance recording 12 points, a game high 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
Bryson Castillo and
Akeem Dauphin also shot in the double digits as Castillo scored 12 points while Dauphin scored 10.
The Royals strength inside the paint has continued to shine, as Warner once again scored over half of their points inside the key with 36. Warner shot 23-55 (41.8%) from the field, 3-19 (15.8%) from 3, and 17-27 (63.0%) from the charity stripe.
Warner will look to bounce back when the team travels to West Palm Beach to face off with Keiser University.
