LAKE WALES, Fl. - Warner Baseball will head north to Georgia this weekend for their first road trip of the year to face off with Thomas University for a 3 game series.
The Royals will come into the series after coming off a weekend where the team went 2-1 after splitting a doubleheader on Friday with (RV) Abraham-Baldwin Agricultural College and a 6-3 win on Sunday over Indiana University South Bend. Warner saw strong performances from both their pitching staff and hitters across the 3 games this last weekend. Friday's games were highlighted by a 2 out, walk off, RBI single off the bat of
Horiam Santiago to take game 1 5-4 over a Stallions team who has received votes to be ranked in the NAIA Top 25. Freshman
Easton Nunez earned his 2nd win of the season on Friday as Graduate
Harper McLendon threw 5.0 Innings while allowing only 3 hits and 2 earned runs in the win. On Sunday,
Trenton Chenard threw 7.0 Innings and allowed only 1 run off of 3 hits as he struck out 6 Titans to earn his 1st win of the season. The Royals also stole 11 bases in Sunday's matchup and have now stolen 26 bases so far this season.
Thomas University comes into the week with a 3-3 record and are coming off a series win over #14 Reinhardt University. The Night Hawks, like the Royals, have played strong competition so far this season, losing 2 of 3 games against #8 Webber International University during their opening weekend and then winning 2 of 3 against #14 Reinhardt University.
Both Warner and Thomas have shown that they can play with the best teams in the NAIA in this young season, so this weekend's series is sure to be highly competitive between the two squads. Both teams will look to their pitching staff's to set the tone, while the Royals will continue to try and cause chaos on the base paths with their aggressive and timely base running.
