MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Warner Men's Basketball traveled to Miami Gardens on Wednesday to take on SUN Conference foe St. Thomas University to kick off the 1st of 5 games in the final two weeks of the regular season. Although the Royals and Bobcats went back-and-forth for the majority of the game, STU were able to pull away from the Royals to take the win by a final score of 82-68.
Despite going down early the Royals were able to find their rhythm and overcome a 15 point deficit with a 16-to-1 run in the opening phases of Wednesday's matchup. The Royals and Bobcats would trade blows throughout the 1st half with Warner taking a 33-30 lead into the locker rooms at the break. The two programs would continue to go toe-to-toe in the 2nd half, but the Bobcats were able to slowly pull away later in the game to come out with a 82-68 win.
Marcel Pace set a new
career high scoring 23 points to lead all scorers on Wednesday, going 9-for-15 from the field and went 4-of-6 from the charity stripe. The Sophomore also secured 4 rebounds and 2 steals against the Bobcats.
Seth Childers and
Jerry Kline-Ruminski added double-digit points to the Royals total as well, scoring 16 and 11 points respectively. Childers also secured a team high 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals with a single block in Wednesday night's outing.
The Royals shot 23-for-57 overall, while going 3-for-13 from 3-point distance and 19-for-23 from the free throw line against St. Thomas. Warner will look to bounce back when they return home on Saturday to take on Southeastern University.
