RECAP: Royals Split Home Double-Header Against ABAC

LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Royals split their Friday double-header against the ABAC Filies, dropping their 1st game of the year 6-to-0 in Game 1, but shut out the Filies in Game 2 earning a 8-0 win in 5 Innings.

Despite dropping Game 1 of the day, the Royals still saw strong performances from Catcher Diana Martin and Pitcher Elle Hernandez. Martin went 3-for-4 in Friday night's 1st game, her 3 hits were the most by any batter in Game 1. Hernandez threw 6.0 Innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 7 and only allowed 3 walks in Friday's outing.

The Royals bounced back in Game 2 of the night in a big way as they would go on to win by the run-rule with a 8-0 Final score in 5 Innings. Warner's bats came alive early as they loaded the bases in the 2nd Inning before Martin would drive in the 1st run of the game on an RBI Single. April Dominguez followed that up with an 2 RBI single while the bases were still loaded to help the Royals take a 3-0 lead. Warner kept the line moving in 3rd loading the bases for a 2nd consecutive Inning, Grace Derstine would bring in the 1st run of the Inning on a productive ground out to the 1st baseman. Abby Faircloth would drive in 2 more runs after hitting a bases loaded single before Martin drove in another run on another productive out to advance the runners to take a 7-0 lead.

After a quiet 4th Inning, the Royals loaded up the bases again in the 5th Inning for Dominguez's 4th plate appearance of the game. Dominguez would end up getting hit by a pitch, which scored the 8th run of the game to end the game by run-rule in the bottom of the 5th. Junior Kierstin Garman earned her 3rd win of the season on Friday night as she pitched a 5 Inning Complete Game Shutout against ABAC. Garmen completely dominated on Friday as she allowed only 3 base-runners all night on 2 hits and 1 walk as she struck out 4 in the win.

Warner will look to carry this momentum into tomorrow's double-header when they take on Thomas University at Daly Field.
