BRADENTON, Fla. - The Royals took to the road Wednesday night to take on SUN Conference foe New College of Florida to kick off their final week of the regular season. Warner's night was highlighted by 4 different players scoring 16 or more points in their 94-84 win over the Mighty Banyans.
The Royals never trailed in Wednesday night's SUN Conference matchup as they lead for all but one possession that came in the opening phases of the game that saw the score tied at 3 less than 2 minutes into the game. Warner continued to pull away throughout the 1st half behind
Jamal Norris' 15 points in the first 20 minutes while
Bryson Castillo scored 13 of his own to help the Royals take a 52-to-31 lead into the break. The Mighty Banyans came out of the locker room determined to fight their way back into the game. Warner's defense would bend, but not break as NCF would cut the Royals lead to as low as 6 points late in the 2nd half. The Royals were able to find their footing once again and would keep the Mighty Banyans at arm's length as Warner took the 94-84 win on the road.Â
Castillo lead the way on the scoreboard for the Royals, scoring 22 points while shooting 7-for-12 overall and 3-for-4 from 3-point distance. Norris and
Josh Irwin were not far behind dropping 18 points each in the win. All 18 of Norris' points came from beyond the 3-point arc, making a season high 6 3's in the win and as he shot 6-17 overall with 14 of those shots coming from downtown. Irwin had a near perfect shooting night on Wednesday shooting 6-7 from the field and 6-8 from the Free Throw line off the bench.
Marcel Pace added 16 to the Royals total in a game that saw the Sophomore shoot 5-for-17 overall, 3-10 from 3, and 3-6 from the charity stripe.Â
Warner tied their season high for made 3-pointers on Wednesday night as the team would make 14 of their 35 3-point attempts which was good enough for a 40.0% shooting percentage from downtown. The Royals shot 30-69 overall (43.5%) and 20-29 (69.0%) from the Free Throw line in the win.
The Royals will look to build on this win when they take to the court for Senior Day on Saturday when they take on Crooked Lake Rival, Webber International University to wrap up the regular season.Â
