RECAP: Chenard Throws Complete Game As Royals Split Double-Header With Ave Maria

AVE MARIA, Fla. - The Royals split their first SUN Conference double-header on Saturday against Ave Maria University. Game 1 saw the Royals hit 4 Doubles on their 9 hits and stole 4 bases, while Trenton Chenard therw a complete game as the Royals won 6-to-1. The Gyrenes were able to fend off a late push by the Royals in Game 2 as the Royals fell 12-10.

Game 1 - Royals Win 6-1
The Royals were able to bounce back quickly after Friday night, taking Game 1 of Saturday's double-header by a score of 6-1. Warner got on the scoreboard first, as Carlito Collins was able to score during a double-play that record the first 2 outs of the Inning. The Gyrenes sole run of the game came in the 5th Inning, but clutch pitching from Trenton Chenard stranded the go-ahead run on 3rd recording a strikeout and ground-out to send AMU back to the dugout. Warner's bats came alive in the final two Innings, as Francis Alberto drove in the 1st run of the 6th Inning by hitting an RBI single to Center that brought Gabriel Rodriguez home. The Royals were then able to capitalize on a Gyrenes error to bring Francis Alberto in for the 2nd run of the Inning. Warner went on to string together a few strong at-bats in the 7th to bring in 3 more insurance runs in the final inning of Game 1. Adriel Torres-Gonzalez drove in the first run of the Inning on a Sacrifice Fly to Right to drive in Garrett Gregory which was followed up by a Dawson Schumann 2 RBI Single to bring Alberto and Rodriguez home to get the Royals their 6-to-1 win.

Trenton Chenard had a dominant day on the mound for the Royals, throwing a Complete Game while allowing only 1 run on 3 hits against AMU. Chenard had a career day throwing his first ever complete game and recording a career high 10 strikeouts in the win. Saturday was also the first time that Chenard only allowed 1 run when pitching 5 or more Innings in a single outing in his career.

Francis Alberto drove in the Royals first runs of the game, hitting a 2 RBI double to bring in Carlito Collins and JD Swarbrick to score. Torres-Gonzalez would bring 2 more runs in on a 2 RBI single to drive in Alberto and Rodriguez home. AMU extended their lead in the bottom of the 6th when they drove in 1 more run to get the score to 6-4. Warner answered back right away as Swarbrick hit a 2 RBI Single in the 7th to drive in Ethan Pues and Timothy Dunn tying the game at 6 runs each. Ave Maria's bats got hot in the next two Innings and would take a 12-to-6 lead going into the 9th. The Royals fought hard and were able to create a 4 run rally with 2 outs in the 9th. Swarbrick drove in the 1st run on an RBI single to get Dunn home, before Swarbrick would eventually score on a wild pitch. Torres-Gonzalez brought 2 more Royals home on a 2 RBI Double that saw Alberto and Rodriguez scoring runs for the Royals. Unfortunately, the Royals were unable to keep the rally going and would see the last out come with the tying run at bat, falling 12-to-10.
