RECAP: Royals Sweep Double-Header Against Mission University

LAKE WALES, Fla. - Warner Baseball swept their first double-header of the year on Friday to extend their winning streak to 4 games. Both of Friday's games were tight battles that came down to the final outs, but Warner would fend off Mission University by a score of 3-2 in game 1 and 7-6 in game 2.

Game 1: Warner Wins 3-2
Adriel Torres-Gonzalez got the Royals on the board early, driving in Gabriel Rodriguez in the 1st Inning off an RBI infield single to put the Royals up 1-0 after an Inning of play. The Royals kept the line moving in the 2nd and would tack on another run when Jhenzel Figueroa drove in Dawson Schumann to give Warner a 2-0 lead on an RBI single. The game was later halted during the top of the 4th inning due ot lightning in the vicinty of Sikes Family Field. After a 40 minute delay, the teams returned to field with starting pitcher Trenton Chenard continuing to pitch for the Royals. The Patriots were able to manufacture a run during the weather delayed 4th Inning to cut the Royals lead in half.

The Royals would later score what would become the game winning run in the 6th Inning during a safety squeeze attempt off a bunt by Horiam Santiago. Santiago laid down the bunt with Calrito Collins at 3rd, Collins found himself caught halfway between 3rd and Home when the Patriots pitcher came up with the ball and attempted to return to 3rd. Collins' speed forced the pitcher to commit a throwing error that in turn brought Collins home to score the Royals 3rd run of the game. Mission would go on to get their final run in the 8th Inning, but Alexi Angelo would shut the door on the Patriots as he struck out the side in the 9th to record his 2nd save of the year and secure the 3-to-2 win.

Trenton Chenard had another incredible day on the mound for the Royals to earn his team leading 3rd win of the season. Chenard had a dominant start to the game, striking out 5 of the first 7 batters he faced while not allowing a baserunner until the 8th batter of the Patriots lineup was able to get a single. The Senior took on the challenge of continuing to pitch after a 40 minute lightning delay in the 4th Inning and still managed to prevent the Patriots from creating any momentum as he secured the 5 Innings needed to qualify himself for the win. Chenard's final line was 5.0 Innings pitched, allowing only 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 8 in the win for the Royals.

Mission answered back in a big way as they drove in 4 runs in the top of the 5th to take a 4-to-1 lead. The Royals got 2 runs back in the bottom of the 5th, first off a Rodriguez RBI single that scored JD Swarbrick, while Rodriguez would later score when Torres-Gonzalez was able to reach base off a throwing error by the Patriots Shortstop.

The two teams continued to go back-and-forth in the 6th as the Patriots would tack on 2 more runs taking a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the 6th Inning.
